Hey friends,
Can you believe that as of March of this year, I have been writing this segment of my newsletter for two years? First, I’m kind of mad at myself for not remembering, seeing as we’re practically in May already lol. Second, is it kind of bad that over the course of two years, I only have about sixteen posts? Debatable
One day, while feeling nostalgic, I searched for my first W&W newsletter and read the first few lines. Instantly, I was brought back to some of my intentions for this, but also saw how I changed and reformatted some of my posts as well. For example:
Inclusion of audio - I had intended on including an audio clip with each post as an added layer, but unfortunately fell through on executing it.
Structure - I wanted this to feel like a conversation rather than reviews. Less formality, more tipsy thoughts lol
Most of all, I wanted to just have fun exploring a new hobby (wine) while also sharing more of my love of storytelling (watch)
As I mulled over (see what I did there?) how and why I started this segment, I realized that it was something I hadn’t really shared before. Instead, I fired off on all cylinders, as I normally do, and didn’t look back.
So, I figured before I finally kick off the first Wine & Watch post of the year, I should at least share why I incorporated this into my newsletter in the first place. Well, expand on it.
The Why
As aforementioned, I’d begun to take on wine as a hobby. Not just drinking wine, but learning about the production process and even elements of the business.
Back in 2023 I was turning 30 and decided that I wanted a new hobby to, for lack of a better word, become obsessed over. I don’t truly remember how I stumbled upon wine. All I know is that I’d had a quick conversation with my bestie Toya, and bing bop boom five bottles showed up on my doorstep. The rest, as they say, was history.
As for the Watch part, I’d been wanting to share more of my thoughts on other forms of storytelling for a while. Because, as much as I was and still am a bookwyrm, growing up I loved television shows and movies just as much.
Before streaming, heck even before cable TV, ya girl was watching everything from Arthur to The Jamie Foxx Show.
There’s just something special about being a part of a character or characters journey and watching as they navigate their life, world, and obstacles, that has always fascinated me. Of course, I clung to the ones that felt relatable. But I also liked to yell at the ones I didn’t fully understand as well.
So, I thought, why not share some of those thoughts with you!
There have been a few hiccups along the way because I didn’t truly anticipate just how much work it was going to take to get here. But I am excited to step into this new chapter of the segment this year. So, here’s what to expect.
Wine & Watch 2025
First, I’ll be bringing back audio, possibly adding a visual component as well! (baby steps) Second, consistency. Since I’d ultimately like to post more of these throughout the year, I plan on discussing one show and one movie per month, with plans to up that amount as the year continues. Third, live and probably slightly tipsy reactions. Again, baby steps. Finally, more insight on some of my wine choices and the wineries I get them from. But be warned, I also am a huge proponent of store-bought wines as well lol
I’ll be sharing the first post of the year next week! What do you think it’s gonna be? A TV show or a movie? Take it a step further, what movie or TV show do you think it will be? Let me know below!
